2D Laser Cutting:
Process, Capabilities, & Benefits

2D laser cutting has become an extremely reliable method in creating objects with little to zero distortion. But how do they even work? This is a question that is not as uncommon as you think!

On a typical laser cutter, most beams consist of a very intense light of a single wavelength to produce precise cuts. There are three varieties of 2D laser cutters:
     1. CO2 Laser
     2. Fiber Laser
     3. Crystal Laser
At TDM, we utilize a Fiber Laser for our cutting process because of the abundance of benefits.

With a Fiber Laser, a beam is created using a ‘seed laser’, which is then amplified using glass fibers and pump diodes. With a 1.064 micrometer wavelength, the laser beam for a fiber laser is roughly 100 times greater than that of a C02 laser when it comes to intensity. It also means that they can work with both metal and non-metal materials.

Along with the benefit above, a fiber laser is often maintenance free, cost beneficial in replacement parts, and have a longer service life of around 25,000 usage hours. All of these factors help us deliever your service at a more affordable quote.

There are many, many other parameters that affect cut quality as well, but when all are controlled properly, laser cutting is a stable, reliable, and a very accurate cutting process. Understanding the process of 2D Laser Cutting is important to be able to understand why this application should be chosen for your project. There are endless advantages to utilizing this technology, such as:

faster Production speed

no need for tooling

higher accuracy

immaculate product finish

lower costs
